BPA Gifts Two New Benches Near Willow Trees

On Tuesday November 28th, two new benches purchased by the Bullough's Pond Association were installed by City workers on the pond's bank, near the willow trees at the corner of Bullough Park and Dexter Road.  The benches match the two that were provided by the BPA at the Medallion Overlook in 2018, and all four have plaques honoring the membership of the BPA, as your donations make such improvements possible.

The process began early this year, and the BPA board is grateful to Director of Parks & Open Space Luis Perez Demorizi and staff from Newton's busy Parks, Recreation & Culture (PR&C) Department. Luis and his colleagues worked very cooperatively with the BPA board to secure all necessary permissions and do the complicated installation - in very cold weather.
More Updates: The BPA board is working with Luis and PR&C on further upgrades, as well as on addressing ongoing stormwater-related damage at the Half Moon seating area (below, left). The Bullough's Pond Dam rehabilitation project is moving very slowly, perhaps because so many other parks and public facilities projects (Gath Pool, Levingston Cove, Senior Center, etc) are currently underway. However, this summer's heavy rains once again demonstrated the dam's great strength (below center), but did lead to an explosion of invasive plant growth (below, right), so invasives removal is again high on the BPA's agenda for the new year.

Some Great Opportunities to Give Gifts That Also Support Bullough's Pond...
You might recall the BPA produced two pictorial exhibitions last year - at the Library and at City Hall - about the history, flora, fauna, ecology and cultural significance of Bullough's Pond. Those exhibitions ran concurrently with art exhibits by photographer Ellen Foust.

Bullough's Pond is a subject that fascinates Foust. The pond's clouds, colors and surfaces are revealed in her stunning photographs that prompt reflection and emotion. Last year, Foust donated a portion of the proceeds from sales of her Bullough's Pond photographic calendars and prints to the Bullough's Pond Association. We are delighted to announce that she will do the same this year with a new set of images (see below) from this year.

We hope you will support the pond by purchasing these beautiful calendars or art prints as holiday gifts... Each calendar is 8.5” x 11” when closed, 11” x 17” when open, spiral bound, and printed on high-quality paper stock. The calendars make great presents and are available at $30 each.
To inquire about or order calendars or prints, please email:  [email protected] and please remember to mention that you learned of Foust's work from, and/or that you are a member of, the Bullough's Pond Association.  You can see more of Foust's photography at: www.ellenfoust.com

A Way to Give is to Renew Your BPA Membership With Your Annual Gift
You may have recently received an annual appeal letter (like the one pictured at right) from the BPA.  If you haven't had time to join or renew your membership yet, please take a minute to do so as soon as you can, so the BPA can continue to care for and advocate for the pond, the historic dam, and the adjacent forest. You can make your tax-deductible contribution online here, or send a check made out to the Bullough's Pond Association to:
