Newton's Environmental Engineer Maria Rose, an expert in stormwater and storm drain issues came to Bullough's Pond - in a torrential downpour - to meet with BPA President Marilyn Campbell and BPA Media Director Kathleen Kouril Grieser.

Ms. Rose came to discuss the number and condition of storm drains in the immediate vicinity of the pond (shown as small black dots on the map at left).

The group discussed the schedule for cleaning and maintenance of the storm drains, monitoring of the level of silt accumulation in the pond, and the need for a bathymetric survey of the contours of the pond's floor.

BPA President Marilyn Campbell and Media Director Kathleen Kouril Grieser visited Newton City Hall on June 26 to make a presentation to three City of Newton officials. Chief Operating Officer Bob Rooney, Commissioner of Parks & Recreation Bob DeRubeis, and Commissioner of Public Works David Turocy examined historic BPA photographs and diagrams detailing the risks

associated with silting in Bullough's Pond. In 1990, after years of silt build up, the pond was too shallow to perform its role as part of the City's stormwater drainage system. Heavy rains that year led to massive flooding and serious damage downstream of the pond. The City and the BPA are working together to prevent future flooding. The Bullough's Pond Association has a 30-year record of working in cooperation with the City of Newton to protect and preserve Bullough's Pond.
